Congratulations to Catherine for winning the category for the second year running. This year saw many new entries to the finals and all are very worthy to be there.
Last Sunday The Racket Hall Country Hotel Roscrea hosted its Wedding Showcase with great success. The hotel is a great venue with lovely gardens. I always think that the staff make a hotel and here you will find them to be warm and friendly. The food is also fantastic thanks to head chef Thomas Greed.
Thanks to all that attended – it was great to meet you there.

President John F Kennedy once stated that if his ancestors had not emigrated to the U.S then he probably would have been working in Albatros. Such was the scale of this massive employer in the community. It went even further by creating a social centre and a sports field.
Boats sailed up to New Ross Port with cargo for the plant. Trucks arrived from all over Ireland to collect the bags of 10-10-20 and the likes for distribution nationwide. There was a constant buzz around the plant.
But that was another era. Another time. The plant is now long silenced. The intense activity of yesteryear is replaced by eerie emptiness. The newer security fence stands in front of the old. The whole site now looks like a vacant factory from the cold war.
It is due for demolotion. This should happen sooner rather than later. There is alot of absestos on the site. As the buildings fall further into disrepair, and storms take their hold the absestos is getting damaged. There are also notable breaches in the security fence. This simply is not a safe place to roam around.
Here are some photos of the site. They are all taken from the roadside.
I am delighted to be sponsoring the photography category of the Blog Awards for the third successive year. It is great to be involved in what is now one of he main blogging events of the year. With over thirty categories from business to personal, there is something for everyone. Hurry though as nominations must be in by the 11th of July.
Gavin from Blog Awards Ireland recently asked me a few questions about the awards and my photography in general. This is the link to the blog article.
The brief was to take images for Monaincha House and Spa’s new website. Turning off the main road onto the long driveway with mature trees and over the ornate metal bridge while you catch first sight of the house, you know that you are approaching something special.
For a Country House experience that offers a warm welcome and tranquil surroundings, check out Monaincha House and Spa, close to the heritage town of Roscrea, Co Tipperary.
Nature has a great way of reclaiming buildings we no longer use. Though I believe the structure is preserved, the roof has fallen into a state of disrepair allowing pigeons to take up residence.
Its clear to see that this once fine building had fantastic gardens. The trees still blossom amid the tufts of overgrown grass overlooked by the statues still standing over the greenhouse.
The convent is for sale again along with its twenty six acres. While the land has its obvious uses, I would love to see the building renovated to function. To do what? – that I don’t know!
Easy to install, the unit is cut into your existing plinth. Hook up the power and you are away.
It is especially useful for pet owners where shedding hair regularly has to be dealt with, and for the elderly where movement may be limited.

Last summer Sage One held a breakfast event at the Shelbourne Hotel on St Stephens Green. They had the innovative idea of offering attendees free head shots for use on their profile pages. They even sent them out in high resolution for printing or press use. It was a great success.
